For our first #tbt, we're looking back at one of attorney Diana Fedoroff's op eds, first posted on the Oregonian's website, which covers women's roles in the emerging Oregon cannabis industry!
“There also has been an influx of women entrepreneurs, facilitated in part by Women Grow, an organization aiming to be “a catalyst for women to influence and succeed in the cannabis industry.” Portland’s chapter, co-chaired by Sara Batterby and Maurer, is the largest in the country. Recognizing the pitfalls of the traditionally male-dominated culture of cannabis, Women Grow is working to create a new paradigm where women are treated as equal players.
One of the goals of the organization is to bring a critical mass of women into the industry in its early stages, for the express purpose of building an equitable industry and preventing creation of a glass ceiling. Cooperation and sharing are central to the organization’s purpose; the group organizes networking events, promotes sharing expertise, and provides low-cost resources for those interested in starting in the industry.”
