Professional LIability

Professional liability cases can be tricky and filled with challenges. These include finding the right experts. Understanding the standard of care to which a professional is held. Linking the bad acts to the harm claimed —all of which must be met in legal malpractice, accounting malpractice, and medical malpractice cases. Professional liability cases are not for the faint of heart because they’re often emotionally charged and come with significant financial risk. You need a fearless team by your side. The Heekin Law Firm has no qualms about holding people in trust positions accountable for abusing your faith in them to do their jobs with reasonable care. Our experience is not limited to the plaintiff side; we’ve also successfully defended professionals who have upheld the duties they took oaths to uphold and those required by law.

Representative cases include:

  • Represented insurance companies in an accounting malpractice claim against auditors for over $8 million in damages.  Claim arose from fraud involving fictitious companies, falsified documents and check kiting.
  • Represented banks in accounting malpractice claim for $23 million against regional accounting firm arising from phantom large-scale cattle fraud. Case settled.
  • Defended orthopedic surgeon against medical malpractice claim for $230,000.  Judge granted a directed verdict against the economic damages for medical bills. Jury awarded $1,000 for pain and suffering and $9,000 for lost wages.

Katherine is extremely bright, hard working and damn well organized. She is on the cutting edge of technology skills. Top notch in this area.
